In Panama City, the autopsy of the man (Clay Duke) who held the District school board hostage before killing himself revealed cipramil (celexa) in this poor man’s system!
Lately, more and more coroners are trying to get investigations into this drug and on top of that there is an appeal to the courts involving Lundbeck’s behaviour with the acquisition of drugs used to treat patent ductus arteriousus (PDA), a heart condition affecting premature babies. In an internal e-mail the vice president of lundbeck said “We can price these almost anywhere we want given the product profiles”. His plan was to increase the price from $78 to $1,500 Nice Company?
Details of the appeal can be found here
As if that wasn’t enough there are petitions being filed at the moment to try and stop lundbeck from allowing their drug pentobarbital to be used in executions in the U.S. and the details can also be found here. It’s in German but you can get the jist!
Then lastly, their licencing partner in the U.S. who distributes celexa /cipramil to the American market (forest labs) received the news this week that their CEO Howard Soloman, following on from their fine of 313 million for dangerous off label marketing of their drugs includind celexa/cipramil, may be prevented from doing any further business with federal healthcare programs and this may cost him his job. CEOs of pharma, watch out…turning a blind eye to pharmaceutical corruption may be coming to an end.
In 2006, Mary Harney, TD, Minister for Health and Children in Ireland opened the new Dublin offices of this company, She said…”I’m delighted to officially open Lundbeck’s offices in Citywest today. AAH MARY..Don’t forget the side effects of their drug can cause “self-harm and harm to others” A.K.A. suicide/homicide.
What was the (now ex) minister for Health and children doing opening a pharmaceutical companies office? Surely this is another prime example of “conflict of interest”? Link…
Maybe it’s no wonder she never got round to replying to me before she left…
The Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney, T.D., has asked me to
thank you for your letter concerning the prescribing of anti-depressants
and to let you know that it is receiving attention. (yep I bet it is Mary!)
